Z'EV

Example Album: Schönste Muziek

Location: USA

Years Active: 1979-2017

Style: Metal percussion

Z'EV is probably the most important artist as far as scrap metal percussion is concerned, since he is said to have been the first to play percussion with scrap metal objects in the context of industrial music. There's something deeply spiritual and ritualistic to his music, using found and homemade objects to create clangorous and resonant sound, playing off the audience and listeners. When Z'EV plays on these objects, he's evoking the spiritual essence of elements, the power held in Earth materials. There is a bit of diversity among the records I've heard, considering the massive size of his discography, but I've found Schönste Muziek to be the best representation of his elemental, ritualistic metal percussion sound.

Unfortunately, in 2017, Z'EV passed away.
