Chu Ishikawa

Example Album: Tetsuo Complete Box

Location: Japan

Years Active: 1988-2017

Style: Metal percussion, electro-industrial, soundtrack

Chu Ishikawa was an industrial artist and composer from Japan. He began making music at age 15, and started playing in his first band, Zeitlich Vergelter, when he was 18. A big feature of all his work, including all the bands he ever played in, was metal percussion and industrial instruments. He also was a member of the industrial band Der Eisenrost until his death in 2017.

As a solo artist, he composed original soundtracks for films, most famously Tetsuo: The Iron Man, its sequels, Tokyo Fist, and more. The best example of metal percussion in his work as a solo composer can be found in the Tetsuo movies, a lot of really cool scrap metal and industrial sounds throughout, often interspersed with electronics and other samples.
